Q&A with TIC Cadet Taylor
Taylor Smyth is currently on her stable placement for
Mike Moroney – Ballymore Stables
. We asked five quick questions to get some insight into her day.
1. What the best part of your day?
The best part of my day would be getting to know each horse better every day and learning their characteristics.
2. What’s the biggest realisation since starting?
There is always more to learn. It’s a continuous process for everything; learning types of gear, how to properly apply and fit the gear, different horses, their personalities, their brands, how best to handle each situation and each horses behaviour as it differs from horse to horse, and no matter how much you think you could possibly learn there is always so much more.
3. What wakes you up in the morning?
I usually get my dog’s wet nose in my face around 2:45 and then an alarm at 3.00am just to make sure I’m up. From there I have a protein smoothie with two shots of coffee in it for a kick. Along with some of my favourite music in the car.
4. What’s your least favourite job of the day?
Getting out of the car in the mornings when it’s below 5*C isn’t one of my most favourite things in the world but the horses make it worth it!
5. What’s your favourite horse?
‘She’s a Thief’ – a grey filly who will always come over for a cuddle and no matter how my day is going or what mood I am in always seems to be able to pick me up and put a smile on my face.
