With the first phase of the Cadetship behind them, Lauren Newman reflects on her experiences while also looking forward to her work placement.
The Explorer Cadetship has taught me and the other students so much about the thoroughbred racing industry. We attended classes about breeding, racehorse performance, riding lessons and also attended a gym class every Monday. The first phase of the course has prepared me and the other Cadets for the next phase of the program where we will be put in a work placement. I am very excited to start working in the industry again as I had to leave my stablehand job to attend the course interstate. But the sacrifice was worth it as the course has led me to have some amazing experiences.
Every Saturday I was either attending Royal Randwick or Rosehill races where I got to see horses such as Winx, Redzell, Nature Strip, and many others. My favourite experience from these adventures was watching Hartnell run in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes.
After my experiences in the first phase of the Cadetship, I am looking forward to the start of my work placement shortly!
